“i am bloody sick of it all …..”
dob in a truckie, report a truckie, a truckie this and a truckie that. to tell you the truth, i am bloody sick of it all. tell some of these GOOBAS to get open their eyes and take a look at what some of these car drivers are doing. if people would look at some of the positive things that we do, they might not be so keen to do what they are doing. i don’t care if there are some truckies involved with this site or not, i will keep rubbishing this website until something positive is done like adding a dob in a car driver section. wake up to yourselves and realise that there is two sides to every story. you are only getting one of them.
oh yeh, i forgot to mention that i drive trucks and i drive a car and i ride a motorbike. whilst on the bike, i fear the car driver, not the truckie. let’s see if you put this on your site for all to see. i wont get my hopes too high

G’day Mr.No moniker or No monikeress, Dave here.
Mate,There is no reason why you can not report bad car drivers on this site. The reports of bad truck drivers are firstly alleged only reports that go to be investigated by the many companies involved.
I read the reports and I don’t make a personal judgement on them and I’d dare say some of the others[car drivers/truckies]don’t either.
The one positive thing for me out of this is that I make an attempt to listen to what the truckie has to say and actually meet some around my region.
Of course there is two sides to the argument, you will not see otherwise from a majority on here.Hey,I drive on the road too and I could report many motorists in my travels but the Police would come and touch me up for giving them too much paper work.
What I’m trying to say out of all this is you are quite welcome to report and make comment on here anytime and Lyndal or Westy would agree.
So how about it,you don’t have to put your real name up and you will be involved in trying to establish a good relationship between all on the road.

Unfortunately you didn’t leave a name;
Even though the word GOOBAS has tripped me up and left me puzzled, I do agree with you that it is only fair that dangerous driving regardless of the type of vehicle being driven, should be reported and not just the ‘truckie’. I agree also, that the ‘truckie’ does some good things and this should be appreciated too. Also, yes there are usually two sides to the story
You are right, there are some truck drivers involved in this site, men of charector who are making an admirable stand in what they believe is right, to try and make a difference, instead of just watching the carnage. Some of these ‘truckies’ have needlessly lost mates on the roads due to perhaps stupidity from other drivers, being time pressured and also perhaps fatigue related issues. For these men to make this stand must have difficulties, because it is only natural that they would like to feel as if they are being supported by their trucking mates. These men certainly have my respect. I am confident that the majority of people should wish to see the ‘truckie’ fairly treated in regard to work, safety and wages, so that he can go about his work in a job that he enjoys and return safely to his family; he also has to try and fulfill his responsibility of safety as well as the rest of us.
There are good things unfolding as a result of this site and of course it is not perfect, but it is giving all of us opportunities to have a say in what we think and feel from our individual experiences and that is a good happening; it will take time to iron out the hiccups, and irritations which some might feel, but that isn’t a reason not to encourage the people involved running and contributing to this site, trying to make a difference which will benefit many.
Perhaps you might have some thoughts or ideas as well which could be helpful.
Sincerely Irene Baldwin

I used the word ‘men’ as a general term in describing my respect of the ‘Truckies’ making a stand for safety values. Of course, there are great women involved in the trucking indusry and driving these enormous vehicles also, which I find awsome; and I didn’t wish them to feel that they have been overlooked in any way. These women also have my respect and of course I wish these men and women safe travelling.

Hi Mum, (Mother Trucker) I was doing my spell check on the computer (GOOBAS) ?? I think i worked it out” it means”?? BOGAS !!
Mr Moniker ….. don’t be so negative regarding to this site. The letter you wrote on car drivers, and in the way they conduct them selves on the roads . ie the way they manoeuvre between traffic and trucks placing themselves into dangerous situations.
The question I ask these drivers is is it total arrogance or just lack of knowledge as to way and size of the vehicle in which some poeple drive? Yes some people in all different types of vehicles are just downright PR–KS in the manner in which they drive ….. BUT others simply just don’t realise.
For example a heavy vehicle driver looks long distance when travelling at hwy speed only because of his experience on the size of the vehicle in which he drives and the distance in which it takes to stop. The person who drives a car drives in the same manner as to the size of the vehicle in which they drive and so the viewing, looking distance a lot shorter).
Fine example is the time it takes a car driver to dim his high beam lights when on approach to oncoming traffic as to a heavy vehicle driver who dims his lights 2 or 3 kms before his or her approach to oncoming traffic.
Finally the comment you made about this site. YA WRONG!! This site is not a waste. There are some really nice people who take the time to communicate on this site who ask questions, who give ideas” . for the one Only reason. That is they CARE..
Dave N who is an EX ambo. managers from various companies, people who have lost love ones, truckies who have pride in themselves, drivers of all types with families, a Lady that made the gutsy stand at the beginning who I have respect for, me a dumb ass bus driver who also has a family so be positive about this site.
WESTY can’t wait to hear from ya (WHAT IS THAT IDEA I GAVE YOU ??) hurry up and get back to me.. how is your lovely wife Kerry BEAR . and ya cubs going. I heard that your nick name was POO BEAR - is this correct??
Keep safe to ya all

Westy and Chris ….. my mother has a question about the braking system on doubles. When braking under hard conditions and preventing the jackknife of the 2 trailers on a slight bend how does the air flow work? Does it go from the prime mover to A trailer then to B trailer because my late brother Trevor said by putting a direct air line from the prime mover to the B trailer 1st up, causing it to brake 1st then flow of air pressure to the A trailer making it brake 2nd would help prevent a jackknife. A bit like a caravan and the way it brakes before the car?
This is way out of mine and Mums league. leave it to ya guys

Hi Ian ….. some very good points there, Ian. You are right, a lot of mistakes by motorists in regard to heavy vehicles and their capabilities would be due to ignorence; of course excluding speeding, arrogant and aggressive motorists.
I have learnt a little about trucks and ‘truckies’, simply because I have been thrown headfirst into the Transport Industry because I happen to have sons who will insist on driving these mammoth vehicles!!
I am more aware of the difficulties that truck drivers have of pulling up, therefore, for instance, if I am going to cross the road at a crossing and a truck is coming, I turn to look at shops rather than have the truck driver stressing and going through gears trying to pull up, so that he doesn’t bowl over a little (well, not that little) old lady! A number of writers have spoken about driver education as cars and trucks mix together on the roads, that sounds a very good idea.
Also, the truckies whom I have met, well, some might look a little daunting, but underneath you have men with feelings who just want to do their jobs under fair conditions and return safely to their families.
Not being very mechanical; I feared that at times I might suffer a little brain damage trying to comprehend what the boys were trying to say to me, when they would explain things about trucks. Trevor did speak to me about the braking system on B/Doubles and his thoughts; sounded good..but a bit beyond me!
Ian, be careful of Westy’s feelings, we don’t want him being left sensitive about his love of bears and what people might think!
Sincerely Irene Baldwin (Ian’s mum)

Ian ….. with regards to you second question, first, I must confess, one day, very soon after obtaining my MC licence, I took a long and serious look at the effect that B Doubles would have on both the industry and, more importantly, my career, and I realised that, working out that three extra axles equates to twelve extra tyres, means you might need an extra jack…, an extra trailer, could mean an extra tarp…, Nah! Too hard! To top it off, if you get $50.00 per tonne for a single trailer load, how can they justify $45.00 per tonne, for having a second trailer. (Figures for demonstration purposes only). And so that’s where my interest wanned.
I don’t want to demonstrate my ignorance of all things mechanical, however, the braking system, I believe, on B doubles must be ABS, which works to that very principal.
At this point, I believe my best stratergy is to hand this question over to my technical department, and so, to ‘Mr B (Bloody) Triple wanna be, (poor misguided young’un’s, always think size matters), Chris, take it away….!
As to the idea you gave me, it is still in discussion stage with Mother, who, like many of us, has been a bit distracted with some private issues, however, I am trying to keep her on track and will get back to you on that shortly.
If I may, here, just get serious momentarily, I would add, even though I have said it before, our Mother really has taken on a lot, with her career, other community projects and especially some of the places that CtoC 100 is starting to take her, (and now she tells me that she has a life as well), I stand in awe of what this women achieves. As they say in that butter add, ‘You ought to be congratulated’.
Anyway that’s enough, I don’t want to give your Mum the wrong impression.
As to my wife, thanks for asking after her (and the litter, who have all been evicted from the Den), without sounding like I am trying to invoke sympathy here, I can’t believe, sometimes, just how much alike these two (my wife and Lyndal), are, even to the point of looking like they could well be sisters, so, Ian, you will understand my being curt but courteous and suffice to say, “fine, thank you”.
As to the nick name, mate, either you have been reading the residue from the inside of my windscreen or this is another conspiracy between ‘those two’, just like my night attire. Not going there. Ian, you keep it safe, and keep their bums in their seats, and many cheers to Mum, and remember, youre beautiful, (just ask ya Mom)!
Cheers Westy
